Aubree is another freshman being trusted with an unusually large role. She has already established herself as Milton’s leading defender, averaging around four digs per set during the early season, while the Eagles accumulated 79 team digs in the five-set battle with Denmark.
The developmental opportunity for Aubree is enormous. Libero asks a young athlete to do more than react athletically. She has to begin recognizing hitter tendencies, owning seams and communicating with athletes who may be several years older. Long matches are especially revealing because concentration becomes part of the skill set. The defender still has to read correctly in the fifth set after seeing dozens of attacks.
