Austin Kingsley | Prep Dig Scout
2023 was a breakout year for McCarthy, who soared up our Class of 2025 radar after a strong club season with Nebraska Elite. NLQ was a perfect refresher on this defensive stock riser. McCarthy does a lot more than just control first contacts for Nebraska Elite 17-3. She’s also a brilliant secondary setter whenever the team is out of system, allowing 17-3’s attackers to terminate in scramble situations. A great outing in Minneapolis should prime McCarthy and 17-3 for another surge on the national stage.

Nebraska Elite 16 Vision factored heavily in our new addition features for this class, but McCarthy is one who has been on our rankings for a while. She is now climbing up the leaderboard after she became the unquestioned leader at libero for 16 Vision. Once again, this is a 2025 libero whose best attribute might be her out-of-system setting when the designated setter takes the first ball.

Overhand setting is often a tough skill for liberos to master, but McCarthy has proven to be very comfortable in this area and will not hesitate to help her setter.

16 Vision is just thriving through the front row. McCarthy is a vital component to the team’s ever-improving backcourt, and that ball control has payed dividends in recent regional venues. Omaha Duchesne is also poised to continue its own tradition of solid defenders.
