Expert Analysis

Avery is one of the many talented offensive performers on the Blue Ridge team. At 5’10” she ranks as the tallest. Her game varies in the middle from the quick tempo sets to some at the higher level, when the team really needs a point. She tends to be the go to player for Blue Ridge .
For Sherando she earned a spot on the Northwestern District first team, just one of two frosh to make the team.

Avery has certainly filled the middle spot for Blue Ridge . At 5’10” she can put the higher sets to the floor. Against more accomplished teams it may be more difficult as they can put up a double block.
Avery moves well to the pins to block while getting good arm extension over the net. The athleticism also exists for her to hit the pins.
Metro recently earned a bid in the USA Division with their third place finish at the Sunshine Classic. This will give her an opportunity to showcase in Indianapolis at Junior Nationals.
This past high school season Avery made the first team for the Northwestern District. She was one of two frosh to make the team and one of two players from Shernando to be selected.

At 5’10 she does not reach the height of the two other Blue Ridge middles/outsides. However, the dominance in her game still exists. Like many of the Blue Ridge middles she settles for higher sets that she puts away. If challenged with one middle blocker she will hit it past them. Of course, as she starts playing with the older age groups that dominance will get tougher.

Blue Ridge took third place in their first Open tournament this year losing to both Metro Travel and Metro National. It would not surprise me to see the 15U team win the National Harbor.

Avery is already making an impact for her team as a frosh. In the opener against Clark County she put away six kills and notched one block resulting in a sweep. The team has started the season 2-0 without losing a set.
Her athleticism makes her play at the middle work, despite her 5’10” height which might be considered short by some standards. It would not surprise me to see her eventually move to outside as her game develops. For Blue Ridge she hit the quick tempo sets well but also put away some higher sets in the middle.
The big game for the Warriors will be on 9/4 when they face the three time state champion James Wood. Many of her Blue Ridge club mates play on that team.

At first glance the varsity roster appears filled with returning sophomores and juniors who play middle. None of the names appear in the Prep Dig rankings. Last year the Warriors finished 7th in the Northwestern Conference at 7-7.
At 5’10” Avery brings some height to the middle. When she played for Blue Ridge I can’t remember a lot of quick tempo sets but she pumped a number of higher sets to the floor.
Avery appears to have the athleticism to hit left side as well. Quite confident that whatever position she plays she will fit somewhere in the starting lineup. Expect Avery to play middle while Sherando improves on their 7-7 record.

Avery is one of the players I have followed in the class of 2029 based on her play as a middle for Blue Ridge . She was one of their top offensive performers this year, allowing the club to finish 4th in the Region and placing in the top 100 in the country at the 14U age group.
For some reason I was looking for her with the outsides. She reminds me a bit of

when she was still a year out of high school. Ultimately, I found her hitting with the middles.
She does an excellent job of reaching high over the net to put up a solid block. At 5’10 she also brings the height for the position at the 14U age group. But looking at her play she might work out pretty well hitting from the left side as well.

impressed with her play just prior to her first year in high school. She has now gone on to win three high school state championships for James Wood.
Not to say that Avery will perform at the same level of excellence but these Blue Ridge girls play so well at a young age. Avery will attend Sherando next year. They play in the same Northwestern District as James Wood.
This year she stands out as one of the top offensive performers for Blue Ridge .

At 5’10” Avery put up a strong block for Blue Ridge playing middle. Blue Ridge dominated at the MAPL in both York and Hampton. In support of this domination Avery stood out as one of the top offensive performers for the club. Blue Ridge sits in the top five clubs in the AES rankings for the Chesapeake Region.
This coming season she will attend Shernando High School. They rostered a number of sophomore players last year, finishing above .500. While no frosh made the varsity last season Avery could change that this coming season.
