About Avery

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I have experience running a 5-1 and 6-2 offense. I like to run a fast tempo offense and like to reverse the flow to give my hitters the best chance of success. I watch a lot of film and use this knowledge to be very strategic in my game play. I can I am also very aggressive on defense. I am a strong server and I had 96 aces this high school season.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

As a captain on my club team last year and high school team, I have to lead my team with a positive attitude and enthusiasm. I am very competitive and aggressive on the court. I am a setter, but I love playing defense as well.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am involved in the Assisteens organization, which is part of the Assistance League of Fresno. It is a community service organization that I volunteer with monthly. I have worked at the organization's thrift store and worked at events to help children in low income schools and neighborhoods. This is a 4 year commitment that I will participate in throughout high school.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I have played volleyball for club and school since the age of 9. I was voted as co-captain for my high school team this year. I also work as part of a team for the Assisteens community organization. I am part of Leadership in my high school and I worked as a team, but also helped coordinate events such as Powderpuff.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

Starting a brand new school in elementary school and not knowing anyone.

What type of college are you looking for?

I am not sure if I want to go to a big school or small school, but the school culture and team is most important to me. I am mainly looking at colleges on the West Coast, but I am open to looking at other schools outside of the area.

She consistently pushed a fast tempo to keep hitters ahead of the block, extended rallies with key digs, and led vocally by calling matchups, directing traffic, and maintaining energy during tight moments. Her leadership showed in both her communication and her ability to stay composed while competing in the Gold Division, where she finished the weekend with 12 aces. Following coaching feedback, Avery is focused on delivering consistent tempo to every hitter, involving her middles more effectively, and reversing the flow of the offense to disrupt defenses. She also plans to sharpen her blocking with more disciplined footwork and positioning. Off the court, Avery has a strong appreciation for 80s pop culture and a deep passion for aviation, with aspirations of becoming a pilot. She draws clear parallels between flying and volleyball, noting the shared demands of focus, discipline, and confidence.

Avery’s next tournament is the NIT Battle to Bartle in Kansas City from February 14 to 16.
