About Avery

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

Competitive, focused, energetic! I like to bring the energy, pump my teammates up before each serve/serve receive. I like the high energy, fast paced, close scoring games and the challenges they bring. I am laser focused when the game is on the line.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

Determined. Taking on a new position had it's challenges and I was determined to conquer them. I am a perfectionist to a fault and train hard outside of practices with private lessons and a private conditioning coach for injury prevention. Diet and mental health have also become something I am focused on improving.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I received Honor Roll distinction for academics in school for the past 4 years. I was involved with the National Charity League and did some volunteering through this mother-daughter organization.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I have worked hard on my mental game, staying positive in challenging situations, channeling my frustrations into encouraging self thoughts and have learned to be a positive energy for my teammates during practices and games. I feel like I've become one of the leaders on my teams.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

A few years ago I had trichotillomania, an anxiety disorder that resulted in me unknowingly pulling out my eyelashes, eyebrows and sections of my hair. I learned various techniques to manage this and realized I needed to prioritize my mental health and learn to manage the anxiety.

What type of college are you looking for?

I want to study to be a veterinarian. I've lived in a rural mountain town and also a suburb by the beach so I can accommodate to most environments but don't really like the idea of being a busy, crowded, big city. I think I would love a college campus with lots of school spirit, sporting events to attend, a supportive community and great academics to keep me on my path.
