Cala is a can’t-miss prospect that is worth the watch no matter the competition or the tournament.

The stalwart bookend to all first contacts for this squad, Cala is clearly the best passer in the class of ‘28. You wouldn’t know from watching her, but she’s playing up a year and playing some of the toughest competition available to her this spring. As the tournament turned from Saturday to Sunday, things were made much simpler and play was kept in-system on her side much more because of her mere presence, let alone the value she brings in all aspects of being a libero at the next level.

A two-time defending 4A state champ, Cala is already playing at the next level, literally—-her experience representing the U-S-of-A last year proved just that, and should be the first libero off the board in the class of ‘28. Solid in serve receive, anticipatory on defense and acting as another coach on the floor, Cala’s ability to take over a match through the first contact has been proven time and again for those teams choosing to serve to her. The gap between her and the other defenders from Indiana in this class is wide; not too many in this (or any) class in Indiana play at Cala’s level.

As the top recruit in the class of ‘28, Cala’s international experience, paired with her all-state honors and two 4A state championship trophies, make her as elite as they come. Rarely do I bring attention to liberi in any of my articles, yet Cala breaks the mold and is one-of-one in the floor general category. With quick, deliberate footwork, a calm platform and near-perfection in her technique, Miss Haffner is part of the next generation of passers to come out of Indiana.

Easily the top recruit in the class of ‘28 and far-and-away the best passer in any class in Indiana currently uncommitted, Cala’s cool and calm demeanor combines with her leadership abilities into a libero package that is unrivaled. She’s already earned two 4A state championships in her first two high school seasons, with her most recent fall placing Carroll among the top ten nationally. She’s also got international experience under her belt, and is used to the pressure that comes with wearing the special jersey in high-stakes situations.

With international experience in hand, Cala’s presence at our Exposure Tour yesterday changed how teams with her (and against her) played. She’s calm, cool and hyper accurate with her passing, all while able to direct the drill around her to get the job done. A two-time defending state champ at Carroll, Cala’s immediate presence on PHP’s 17-1 will keep those ladies in-system for the majority of club season.

Another player review, another elite passer from PHP. Cala’s ability to keep the defending champs in system in every match is one of the biggest reasons we’re still talking about Carroll in late October. Her high-end training, international experience and overall leadership while on the floor will allow the Chargers to stay elite, which they’ll need to get by the Shamrocks in what will be the best match of the weekend, in any class.

As the libero last year for the 4A state champ, Cala’s ability to receive serve in half the court was on display at Worthen Arena last November. Fast-forward to today, and Cala’s still bringing it, keeping her Chargers in system more often than not. A player-coach on the floor, Miss Haffner’s international experience has pushed her even further into the stratosphere of top liberi to ever come out of Indiana, and she’s still a sophomore.

The early pick for top recruit in the class of 2028, Cala is the libero for 4A champ Carroll after a stellar outing in the state championship match against Yorktown. She’s on PHP’s 17-1 squad, a full two years ahead of her own. And just when I didn’t think she could improve on her errorless serve receive performance in the high school title match, I had MULTIPLE out-of-state PrepDig scouts telling me how much of a difference Miss Haffner makes on her squad at the tournaments they saw her at. A first-contact queen, Cala is the libero you wish you had on your squad—in charge, calm under pressure and always going a little farther to cover for her teammates. The sky is the limit for this young lady, and it only gets better from here.

There is something about the way this incoming freshman plays that just draws you in. The only words I can think of are swagger & confidence – the kind that can’t be trained at this age; she just has IT. Because of her confidence, Cala makes it look easy to play the DS/L position. She covers a ton of ground on defense and is an extremely calm passer – the kind you want to be next to in serve receive. Haffner simply knows how to play the game well; she moves from base to defense EVERY TIME and always covers. This young lady never takes a play off and makes everyone around her better.
