Cicily Borders brought an aggressive defensive presence today, stepping into seams and closing space quickly. She attacked the ball with confidence, using strong platform control to handle pace and direct first contact.
She also did a great job communicating and organizing the back row, keeping coverage connected. Borders’ assertiveness helped take away angles and disrupt the opposing offense. ~Theresa @prepdigdakotas

As a Roncalli kid, it goes without saying that Cicily’s ball control is well above average. Despite her size, Miss Borders takes long and deliberate strides to get to each and every ball, and works to stay on her feet as long as possible to play that first contact to perfection. I’d like to see her use her hands a bit more on free balls, but that’s just nitpicking on my part because of how complete her game actually is. Her continued improvement will definitely rely on two things—high level match play and training focused on foot movement.

Borders is only a sophomore, but she plays MUCH older than her age; she is smooth and confident on the court, playing like a senior captain would play. Cicily was one of the faster defensive players out of the entire expo, able to run down short balls and keep from hitting the ground too often. Add to that quickness her ability to hit from the back row efficiently and her wicked float serve, and you can see that Circle City 15 Black has a solid DS/L in Borders. I look forward to seeing her chasing down balls we think she couldn’t possibly get to this club season.

Cicily was nearly unstoppable at the Expo. She seemed to be everywhere on the court. From coverage to serve receive, Cicily was a consistent force in the back row. She was relentless and got positive touches on even the toughest balls.
