has solidified herself as one of the top back row players in the South Dakota 2027 class, earning the #3 ranking at the DS/L position. Her game is built on quick reads, clean footwork, and an elite ability to anticipate hitters before the swing ever happens. Coryn’s platform control is steady under pressure, keeping her team in system and giving setters multiple options to run the offense.
She excels in serve-receive, showing confidence on high-velocity serves and staying low through contact to deliver consistent, playable passes. Defensively, Coryn’s lateral speed and willingness to sprawl across the floor allow her to extend rallies and frustrate opposing attackers. What makes her stand out is her court presence—she communicates with confidence, directs her teammates, and plays with the poise of a libero who takes pride in being the first contact.
Still developing and hungry to grow, Coryn brings the mentality every coach wants in their back row anchor: steady, fearless, and reliable in the moments that matter most.

Why do you want to play college volleyball?
~I want to play volleyball in college because it’s something I truly love, and it pushes me to improve every day. I enjoy being part of a team, competing, and constantly finding ways to grow both on and off the court. Playing in college would allow me to continue doing what I love while earning an education, which is very important to me. It’s a way for me to keep pursuing my goals, both on the court and in the classroom!
What does your training schedule look like in-season and off-season?
~During the high school season, we practice daily after school for about two hours and lift weights three times a week, though lifting can be tough on game days (Tuesdays and Thursdays). We play two games per week and sometimes weekend tournaments. In the postseason, we still practice five days a week and spend more time in the weight room, focusing on team play and individual skills as we approach state.
In club season, we start with two practices per week and shift to scrimmages and live play as tournaments near. I attend skill sessions whenever possible. Though I don’t have much of an offseason, I make sure to lift and train on the court, and I also run high school track for cross-training.
How do you balance school, sports, and your personal life?
~I balance school and sports well by doing my homework on the bus or in the car. I have good self-discipline and make sure to schedule meetings with my teachers to catch up on anything I’m missing and plan ahead. I stay organized and work ahead whenever possible. Balancing school, sports, and my personal life isn’t easy, but I manage it. Many of my friends come from volleyball, which makes it easy to hang out with them. When I’m not at school or volleyball, I spend time with friends, focus on self-care, and get in the gym.
What are your strengths and weaknesses as a player?
~My strengths include strong court communication—I talk through every play by calling the ball, directing shots for my teammates, and keeping track of what’s happening on the other side of the net. I take an active leadership role by encouraging my teammates, addressing challenges, and being a vocal presence for the team. I have great court awareness, volleyball IQ, and excel in both defensive and offensive skills.
My weaknesses include footwork efficiency. When the play speeds up, I sometimes get “happy feet.” I tend to overcommit to balls that aren’t mine and occasionally go for balls where a teammate has a better angle. I’m working on trusting my teammates more and communicating earlier, which is sometimes tough in the heat of the moment. I’m pushing myself to talk before plays happen. Lastly, I sometimes pop up too early when anticipating the ball, so I’m focusing on staying low consistently throughout the play.
What are your academic interests or intended major?
~My academic interests include human resource management, business, communication, and possibly interior design.

Here’s another one for the MVP United camp. We said that physicality was an important part of 15 Red’s GPR title, but don’t overlook those who bolstered the defense. Kimbell made her defensive reads look incredibly easy. She is never overwhelmed by an opposing team’s pace and is the defensive focal point that 15 Red relies upon. The national spotlight won’t be too bright.

Why not bring Dakota Valley back into the discussion? We mentioned this South Dakota high school’s serious frontcourt firepower in our GameChangers feature, but the future is bright in the backcourt, too. Kimbell carried the torch for defensive specialists in the Class of 2027, and she worked well in tandem with anyone who was next to her. Dakota Valley and MVP United are in good hands at just about every position, so we’re eager to follow this squad for years to come.
