Guilherme Torres | Prep Dig Scout
Cinco Ranch’s outside hitter started the match on fire, getting back-to-back aces. O’Brien was set quite often, at the net or in the back, and scored at an excellent rate, but also showed intelligence to use tips and even to push the ball against the block and get it back for a second chance. She was also very active on defense, getting a hand on everything that went her way in the middle back and smartly sliding behind the block to cover for tips when at the net.

Cinco Ranch’s star outside hitter had a great all-around performance, impacting the match in several different ways. She was an offensive force at the net and in the backcourt, was solid with her passing, got several balls up on defense and caused trouble every time she fired her topspin jump serve, producing aces in every set. Her shot selection was outstanding all night and her attitude encouraged her teammates.

A very complete and dynamic outside hitter, O’Brien is a key piece in Cinco Ranch’s playing system. Very explosive at the net, she’s the team’s leading scorer and recently surpassed 1,000 kills in her high school career. She’s the player that gets the ball when the set is on the line and is a very efficient hitter. O’Brien is very confident to face opposing blockers, but also extremely intelligent to go around them when that’s the best choice. Very solid with her passing and defense, she recently developed a powerful topspin jump serve.

The top scorer of her Cinco Ranch team that finished fifth, O’Brien seems to have gotten even better in her senior season. She continues to be a dynamic player on the court and her chemistry with her sister and team setter Kassidy seems to have improved even more, but it feels like she still found ways to refine some areas of her game, including with the addition of a tough topspin jump serve. O’Brien produced 73 kills, five aces, 83 digs and 76 passes during the Cougars’ campaign, also making it to the All-Tournament Team.
