Austin Kingsley | Prep Dig Scout
Ryan has embraced her status as Overton’s new go-to athlete. She was a steady performer through her first two years with the Eagles, culminating in last year’s D2 state title. This year, Ryan has suddenly become the experienced leader in the lineup and has seen a meteoric rise in her offensive totals. She is terminating nearly five times per set and averaging a 0.347 attacking percentage to rank among the state’s top scorers. Overton has answered any questions about its ability to stay in the title race after last year’s graduations, and the Eagles are back at No. 1 in the D2 wildcard race.

While Overton’s middle blockers rightfully got a lot of hype this year, we also can’t leave out Ryan’s important role at the outside hitter spot. Because Overton seldom used substitutions all year, Ryan was asked to bring a complete game that you normally wouldn’t expect from an underclassman. The sophomore delivered, however, helping the Eagles finally earn that coveted title.

It’s been quite a year for Ryan, and she’s likely getting used to playing on big stages. The Overton sophomore started the 2023 calendar year by reaching USAV Nationals with her Nebraska Pride club team while playing up a year. That has led to another stout season with the Eagles this fall after Ryan competed in the Class D2 state championship match last fall. Ryan and Overton hope to finish one spot better this time.

Our run of state tournament stars continues. As we mentioned in our Unfinished Business series, Ryan and Overton have an excellent chance to get back to Lincoln and find retribution after last year’s runner-up finish. Optimism has kept skyrocketing after Ryan had several standout performances with Nebraska Pride Gold 16s during the club season.

We’re starting this feature by glancing up at the 16s, a place that was mostly occupied by 2025s this year. But Nebraska Pride Gold 16s brought a ton of 2026 representation to the fold this year, and Ryan is a big one. She started her prep career with a state runner-up finish with Overton last fall. Now, Ryan is carry positive momentum into another high school season after excelling with Nebraska Pride. Ryan can play on either pin, brings outstanding six-rotation skills, and is just beginning her all-around development.

Just another high-level 2026 on the Nebraska Pride Gold 16s roster. We’ve made note of Ryan’s six-rotation impact with Overton last fall as the Eagles finished runner-up in Class D2. More pressure-packed environments are on the way, but Ryan can surely handle it.

Perhaps the best illustration of Ryan’s all-around prowess was during her debut season with Overton last fall. She played for an Eagles squad that could literally go an entire match without making a substitution. The fact that Overton made the state championship match with this lack of platooning is incredible, and it’s a testament to Ryan’s ability to shoulder plenty of responsibilities from the very start of her prep career.

Back to the big stage for Ryan. We’ll inevitably talk about a lot of 15s performers on these 2026 features, but Ryan has made her presence felt while playing up in 16s competition. Her Nebraska Pride Gold 16s team notched a top-five finish at Show Me in 16 USA, and this is after Ryan contributed to a runner-up finish with Overton in last year’s state championships. What a way to start a prep career.
