About Ella

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I am a very scrappy, more defensive setter. I played Libero for 5 years before switching to setting. Being a shorter setter, I make up for the height with strong defense.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I have diagnosed anxiety and sometimes that is hard to handle during tense games or practices. I have learned that mistakes are uncontrollable part of volleyball, and I have to focus on the controllables, like my attitude and mindset. I am always one of the loudest girls on the court. I love cheering and bringing energy into the gym.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I have earned my Girl Scout Bronze and Silver award by completing large community service projects. In High School, I am in Best Buddies as an officer, and a member of National English Honor Society. I am also in some other small clubs, like One Love, Letters of Love, Morgan’s Message, and Newspaper Club.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I have been playing club volleyball for 7 years with a number of different girls. I’ve also played other team sports such as Softball and Lacrosse. I am very involved in the community. I volunteer frequently at local events and have over 50+ volunteer hours.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

In 7th grade my grandfather suddenly died in his 60s of a heart attack. It was very unexpected and my entire family was in shock. The funeral was planned for the day before my club tryouts. During tryouts, I was not in the right headspace and could only think about my grandfather. Despite this, I was able to push through and make my club team.

What type of college are you looking for?

I am looking for a high academic college where I can also play volleyball. I would prefer a bigger school, but I am open to schools of any size. I want to find a team that is like a family and where I can build lifelong relationships.
