About Emily
How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?
I like to have fun and having fun helps me enjoy playing. Having fun can also mean being focused and working as hard as I can for myself and my team. If something goes wrong or my team "messes up", I try to keep my head up and always encourage others. During the time I have played, I realize my attitude affects others. If I have a bad attitude my team may start to mimic my actions.
Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?
I am very loud, outgoing, productive, and determined, I feel as though my personality shows who I am as a person, and that is important to me. My mentality is to work for my team and work my hardest. I'm not just playing for myself but I am playing for others. Trying my hardest is my number one goal because I always want to prove myself and that I am a great player.
Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?
Yes, I am in my high school yearbook, and I am one of our editors. So, I help with the page ideas, help staff with layouts and captions, and I am in charge of cameras and the cove. I have drawn the cover for two years now. It's a big responsibility. In JROTC I was awarded the Senior Army leadership award. I was in JROTC for a year. It was not for me but I loved the opportunity.
What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?
I am continually developing my leadership skills, and through leadership, I learned how to encourage people. Over the time I have played volleyball, I have expanded my teamwork skills, these skills have helped me not only on the court but off as well. In my community service, I help coach at my club. It gives me a different perspective on volleyball.
Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.
I haven't made my High School volleyball team since freshman year, I am now a Junior, but it has not made me give up on volleyball. Not making the team has made me want to work harder to prove myself and prove to everyone I can be better. I am confident that I am good enough. Not making the team did not define me or determine who I am as a player or person.
What type of college are you looking for?
I am searching for a college that offers a strong sense of community, where students support each other and have opportunities to get involved. I will seek a college with a well-established and competitive volleyball program. I want to continue developing my skills and contribute to the team's success. I need to find a place where I can grow both academically and personally.
