About Evie

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I am a versatile player who is always encouraging and ready to work. I am a leader on and off the court and someone who likes to take charge. I am able to play whatever position I am put at, know each rotation well, and will give 110% each play whether it is my preferred position or not.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I am someone who likes to win but I also feel like we need to lose sometimes in order to be better. The only way I think I get better myself is by always giving it 110% at practice and games. I always try to step up and be a leader and be someone who is constantly encouraging or talking on and off the court. I love playing with different people and getting to learn their styles.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am in student council and National Honor Society.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I have developed and really worked on the mental part of the game and being able to stay confident throughout the entire game. I have continued to build leadership skills while playing other sports as well as in my personal life. I have also developed a better IQ on and off the court.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I have learned how to work with players and coaches that may not always be positive, or give feedback that I am looking for. This has given me the opportunity to learn how to remain confident and keep my teammates working together and on a positive path. I've really honed in on my leadership skills in these situations and taken these challenges head on.

Offensively, she stays efficient, mixing controlled aggression with smart shot selection to keep rallies in her team’s favor.

What truly separates Nelson is her hustle. She never takes a rally off — chasing down second contacts, staying disciplined in serve receive, and transitioning quickly into offense.
