About Gemma

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

Driven, communicative, fast, but court smart. I am very good at reading the plays and communicating with my team where the ball is going. Communication and athleticism are essential for defensive specialist and I work hard at both.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I like to have fun, tell a joke or two but lead my team on the court and in huddles. Working together on the court brings success so we have to be mentally together as well and lift each other up and sometimes a good joke comes in handy just to get our minds off a bad play or mistake.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

For the past few years I have been attending Youth Group through our local church and I have received the Presidential Academic Achievement Award for maintaining a 4.0 GPA throughout Junior High School. I was also a Christian Leadership award recipient. As a Freshman I plan on joining some school based clubs as well as continue attending my Youth Group.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

For the past two years I have been on student council serving as the Treasurer and this past year Vice President. As a leadership team we focused on finding local charities in our community that could assist in some way with either monetary or food donations. I would like to continue this in high school as a way to give back locally.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

When I was 7 my Dad passed away unexpectedly and it has changed my perspective on things and in some ways I grew up a little faster than most. I see things differently and value my family and friends and understand the importance of having supportive people and having extended families like my volleyball team. We have to work together to succeed, it is up to all 12 of us on and off the court.

What type of college are you looking for?

A school that believes in me, has a solid program and helps athletes grow in their sport as well as their academics. Finding that balance between school and sports can be challenging without a supportive program and teammates.
