About Haley

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

My gameplay style is gritty and always improving. I’m a second-year club player, so I’m still learning a lot, but I pick things up quickly and really listen to my coaches. I’m a hard worker who’s always trying to get better, and I’m not afraid to be pushed or try new things to improve.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I’d say I’m pretty competitive and determined. I like being challenged and I don’t get discouraged easily. I can shake things off and move on quickly. I’m coachable and open to feedback, and I really want to keep improving. I also try to be a good teammate by staying positive and bringing energy, even when things aren’t going our way.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I have been a JDRF Ambassador for five years. I volunteer and help raise money and awareness for Type 1 Diabetes. Last year, I received the President's Education Award - Outstanding Academic Excellence.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I’ve developed a lot in teamwork and leadership from playing club volleyball, like communicating on the court, supporting my teammates, and staying positive. I’ve also done a lot of community service as an ambassador for JDRF, which has helped me become more confident speaking to others and giving back. Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

Yes, one of my biggest challenges has been being a Type 1 diabetic. I’m only one of two people in my whole school with it, and usually the only one at tournaments. It can be hard sometimes because I have to constantly manage my blood sugar, diet, and energy while still keeping up in school and playing at a high level.

What type of college are you looking for?

I’m looking for a college with a supportive coaching staff that will challenge me and push me to get better every day. Be part of a team with a strong, positive culture where everyone works hard for each other, focuses on development, and competes to win. Academics are also really important to me.
