About Isla

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I'm a versatile, balanced skill set player that can adapt to any position in any offensive or defensive system. Whether it's for fun at an open gym or scrimmage, skill drills or game time...I'm ready to step in and step up as needed by my coach and teammates. I strive to be strategic in every movement and every moment by anticipating plays and making smart decisions in all six rotations.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I thrive on competitive play and committed to being a dependable player and teammate and setting a positive example both on and off the court. I am receptive to coaches' input and feedback. I understand I can't improve myself or my game if I'm not willing to step out of my comfort zone, try new things and evolve. I tend to be more serious and focused on the court, and goofy and fun-loving off.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I have been in the Chinese immersion program since kindergarten and not only speak Mandarin, but am also proficient in reading and writing Chinese characters. I enjoy the language and have been placed in honors classes in elementary through middle school. As a Freshman, I'm taking a Human Geography class (taught in Chinese) and earning college credits by taking an AP Chinese language class.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I have learned that a team is more successful and the wins are more rewarding when everyone communicates, trusts and supports one another. Even if we don't win, if we fought for each other, played to the best of our abilities and learned from the experience, it's ok. I've also learned that everyone has an "off" day here and there, and as a teammate I try to offer encouragement and support.

What type of college are you looking for?

My goal is to play D1 volleyball and study Dermatology.
