Steinkamp first caught my attention when I was watching her club team qualify for the USAV National Tournament by upsetting teams at the Iowa Regional. I watched her again when her squad arrived in Indianapolis on the sport’s big stage. Steinkamp was standing out as a six-rotation right-side hitter. She came equipped with a big old lefty hammer at the opposite pin. Explosiveness and timing led to success in blocking the opposing attack. Steinkamp steadily improved in the back row as the year went on, holding up well defensively and in serve-receive. So far this prep campaign, the sophomore ranks second in kills, digs and blocks for ADM.

Steinkamp has a high-ceiling lefty with a fast, whippy swing. Steinkamp is highly versatile, showing the ability to hit a sharp cross-court angle or paint the line with equal effectiveness.

I hadn’t seen Steinkamp playing in person until the USAV Iowa Regional tournament in West Des Moines during late March. The ADM freshman was an integral part of a RVA team that rose from a second seed in its pool to a fifth-place overall finish in earning a Freedom Division bid to this summer’s National Tournament in Indianapolis. She was operating through six rotations as a right-side hitter. The lefty pressured opponents from the pin with a heavy swing resulting from a lofty vertical leap and hang time. Steinkamp reads the block well and consistently finds holes in the defense to exploit. She adjusts well to the set and usually gets off a good attack. On defense, Steinkamp combines the leaping ability with good timing and keen reading of the attack to out up an effective block. Positional flexibility opens up opportunities to end points all along the net.
