Last week, I wrote about players to watch and offered predictions for the Class 4A Regionals. All of the teams picked to reach state advanced through the semifinals last night.

While I'm going to stick with my eight for the state tournament, I wanted to take a closer look at who will be playing in Tuesday's regional finals. Here are thoughts on each match:

REGION 8

WAVERLY-SHELL ROCK AT MARION

Breakdown: As I wrote about in covering the 5A regionals, the higher the region number, the more competitive they look on paper. Also, cases can be made for the team on the road instead being the host in these matchups.

Waverly-Shell Rock with [player_tooltip player_id='893927' first='Amalia' last='Djoumessi'], [player_tooltip player_id='950565' first='Lizzy' last='Frazell'], [player_tooltip player_id='1053868' first='Lauren' last='Gade'], [player_tooltip player_id='745662' first='Julia' last='Sundblad'] and [player_tooltip player_id='522957' first='Regan' last='Pries'] is ranked five spots ahead of Marion, according to Bound metrics. However, the Wolves' strength of schedule is ranked higher. Marion's crew of [player_tooltip player_id='759977' first='Abbey' last='Kirk'], [player_tooltip player_id='758819' first='Nayomi' last='Vasser'], [player_tooltip player_id='1043729' first='Hayden' last='Dietz'], [player_tooltip player_id='693817' first='Jaleaya' last='Oliver'], [player_tooltip player_id='1017878' first='Kaylene' last='Cordes'] and [player_tooltip player_id='902763' first='Paige' last='Johnson'] is battle tested.

It's a toss-up match with five sets written all over it.

Prediction: Waverly-Shell Rock, 3-2

REGION 7

GLENWOOD AT NORTH POLK

Breakdown: Like in Region 8, this final as the potential to be epic. There's a debate about who should be hosting, but the matchup on paper looks even. There is a stark difference in strength of schedules, with North Polk checking in at No. 17 and Glenwood at 117.

North Polk has survived a brutal slate thanks to the play of [player_tooltip player_id='946957' first='Jaslyn' last='Rasmussen'], Madelyn Klever, Jacinda Nemmers, [player_tooltip player_id='828250' first='Jaiden' last='Uhl'], [player_tooltip player_id='754649' first='Peyton' last='Dirks'] and others. The Rams counter with a talented roster that includes [player_tooltip player_id='940736' first='Addie' last='Madison'] , Jordyn Schulte, [player_tooltip player_id='940743' first='Kayla' last='Christian'], Jenna Walters and Jacie Kanngieser.

Folks attending this contest might want to buckle up. They're in for a thriller.

Prediction: North Polk, 3-2

REGION 6

LEWIS CENTRAL AT BALLARD

Breakdown: It's another juicy regional final matchup in Class 4A. Lewis Central is here after pulling off a rare road upset in the semifinals at Bishop Heelan.

Ballard shares a similar strength of schedule with Lewis Central. [player_tooltip player_id='754258' first='Kendall' last='Ersland'], [player_tooltip player_id='709085' first='Hailey' last='Estrem'], [player_tooltip player_id='728886' first='Lilly' last='Huntrods'], [player_tooltip player_id='939167' first='Norah' last='Mudd'], [player_tooltip player_id='490006' first='Harley' last='Askelsen'], Addison Hosteng and [player_tooltip player_id='729559' first='Halle' last='Gardner'] are a formidable bunch that's earned home-court in what could be a tricky matchup with the Titans.
