John just reached 1,000 career kills at Gering High School, but she still has another important box to check with her team. The Bulldogs have not reached the postseason since 2011, so John has a little extra motivation to usher in a new era. She’s putting down four kills per set on a 0.313 average, placing Gering among the most prolific scoring squads in Class B. We’re used to seeing big-city powerhouses dominate the Class B field, but Gering has climbed to the No. 7 spot with a 24-7 record. John and her crew will keep aiming higher.

We have more than one sophomore to hone in on at Gering High School. John is part of an electrifying underclassman crew that has lifted the Bulldogs to a 9-5 start. This high-flying outside hitter averages 3.4 kills per set and brings various other skills to the Gering lineup. If the Bulldogs need a backup setter option, John can step in. She also plays outstanding floor defense that can help her team terminate in transition. We’re eager to see if this sophomore sensation can bring her well-rounded game to the postseason stage.

John was also an extraordinary contributor in the ball control phase and amassed four digs per set for the Bulldogs. Gering is set up for years of future success, and 2024 should bring another uptick in the win column.

Look out for Gering’s freshman class. John finished near the top of the 2027 leaderboards with 3.6 kills per set and an even loftier total on the defensive end. Her length and physicality were often enough to overpower opposing defenses, but John also showed some savvy shots that you wouldn’t expect from a first-year prep player. Big career totals are in her future.
