About Jessica
Expert Analysis
Bob Abels | Prep Dig Scout
35-29. In their five set championship victory over Williamsport Jessica put together an incredible 60 assists, throwing the ball up 161 times. For the season she ended just shy of 600 assists.
Jessica is a complete player who serves tough, plays a good defense and even at 5’7″ can put the ball down if the defense ignores her in the front row. She moves quick to the ball allowing her to use her hands to consistently set the ball to the hitters. That quickness also comes into play when she plays defense. She also likes to run her offense quick.
Jessica will play for Paramount where they have added height to an already stacked team.

16 team.
They recently defeated Metro 16 and 17 as well as Paramount 17 to win the MAPL Black Division. Paramount now ranks as the top team in the Chesapeake Region and number six nationally. For her play Jessica earned a spot as a setter on the Prep Dig all tournament team for MAPL.
Jessica has a sixth sense for knowing where to set. She has an effortless delivery to push the ball outside. Her serve can also be a potent weapon. She led her high school team in aces. That killer serve continued to show itself at the MAPL tournament with a number of critical aces.

Not many teams are still undefeated this late in the season. The Gladiators stand out as one of those teams. They find themselves at 14-0 with 12 sweeps to their credit. Last year their main setter was Lindsay Kellley, while Jessica watched from the bench. This year it is her turn to take the spotlight.
While only a sophomore Jessica seems to have learned a lot from Lindsay. She carries the knowledge of a player much older. Like Lindsay she sets a 5/1, distributing her sets to all her hitters. She also leads the team in services aces and ranks second in digs.
It is quite an accomplishment for a young player like her to lead her team to 14 consecutive wins. Of course, watching her earn a top performer award at the Prep Dig Showcase makes it no surprise to see her success.

Maryland Juniors may have been my surprise club this year with all the talent flowing from there. The 15 team finished as one of the top 100 teams in the country, according to AES. It would have been difficult to achieve that status without Jessica guiding the offense. She runs the quicks well and does a good job of keeping the defense guessing.
For high school she sets for Glenelg, which appeared in the semi-finals of the Class 3 Maryland State championship. They were also eliminated by North Hagerstown. Lindsay Kelley was the primary setter but Jessica appeared in enough matches to finish second in aces and third in digs. This year she should take over as the primary setter.
Jessica appeared at our Prep Dig Stock up showcase and earned a top performer award. She jumped from 92 to 57 in our rankings.
