Scout’s Take: Cates is already close to surpassing her 2025 kill total and has stepped into a go-to role for the Mountaineers. She has raised her hitting percentage to .279, the best mark of her three-year career. She may be undersized, but she plays above the net, and her quickness allows her to beat defenders to the punch. Cates is also solid in the back row, adding six-rotation value to her profile. Kameah has her sights set on a few schools but remains open to other opportunities. Wherever she lands is getting a big arm and a big personality.

Projected Level: DII

Although Kameah isn’t the tallest, she compensates with exceptional explosiveness and court awareness. Cates demonstrated dominance along the line throughout the weekend, generating points for her team in both in-system and out-of-system situations. She excelled as an effective passer and played a crucial role in Ozark’s 17 Elite offense during serve receive. Kameah consistently executes a fast-paced “go” and transitions at the net with notable urgency. Cates identified gaps in the blocks and utilized high hands to avoid being trapped. Overall, she emerged as a standout performer and one of the most compelling athletes to observe.

This is an athlete who needs to be on your radar. She did all of the little things right. The first ball I saw from her, she got blocked. The next play she ran was at a different tempo, further inside the net, and she absolutely ripped the ball, terminating with clean efficiency. Kameah is a player who clearly doesn’t settle for mistakes and isn’t afraid to make quick on-court adjustments to her game to earn points. She was aggressive yet smart and listened well to her teammates. I saw her pull off on passing a ball after a libero behind her called it. This allowed her more time to transition, and it resulted in a clean kill. Her court awareness, both on her side of the court and her opponents, as well as her high volleyball IQ, made her stand out. She checked every box for me as a high-level player, and I was consistently impressed with her execution and strategy on the court.
