Guilherme Torres | Prep Dig Scout
Kliafas’ presence on the backcourt of her Texas Tornados 18 Adidas team in the 18 USA division will make of them one of the toughest teams to score at in the event. Kliafas, who played as a setter in the last high school season, has tremendous ball control and is a tall libero at 5’10”, which further extends her defensive range. She can also play as a pin hitter and is extremely efficient with her passing too, remaining calm and focused at all times.

Texas Tornados 18 Adidas had a lot of talent at libero with Kliafas and Lauren McIntyre splitting time in the position. Despite not playing 100% of the time, Kliafas made a big impact on the game with steady and reliable passing and her ability to make digs, especially when covering angle from the left back. She’s extremely technical and intelligent and always makes the right decisions, avoiding unforced errors. After doing a great job as a setter for Cy Ranch during the high school season, she also displayed an improved ability to set in transition.

A very talented and versatile player, Kliafas spent the last high school season playing setter for Cy Ranch, one of the top teams in the entire state. She’s now back at her thing playing libero/DS for Tornados 18 Adidas and has been playing a great role in the team’s defensive efforts. Kliafas is extremely technical and calm on the ball and her unusual length for a libero allows her to make plays not many others would. Besides having the technical and physical skills to play great defense, she also works very hard on the backcourt to generate transition plays for her team.

Kliafas spent the last few years developing her reputation as one of the top liberos in the Houston area, but moved to setter during the last high school season and proved she can be great at the position too. Her high volleyball IQ facilitated her adjustment to the new position and Kliafas stood out for running a fast-paced offense that made the most of her hitters at Cy Ranch. She’s also got great size and is obvioulsy an extraordinary defender.

After several years standing out as an elite libero, Kliafas transitioned to setter this season to fill a position of need for the Mustangs. She runs a fast-paced offense with the team as much as possible, but is very accurate with her locations. Her 5’10” frame and her body control also help her deal with passes too tight to the net. Versatile, Kliafas takes up hitting duties at the net and has manged to score at a very good rate. Needless to say, she’s also an outstanding defender.

Kliafas had some difficulties at the start as she had to deal with Cy Ranch’s inconsistent passing, but she did a good job of putting her pin hitters in a good position to score even if out-of-system. Once the team stabilized, she was able to run the offense in her own way and showed a very interesting dynamic as although she was sticking with her most effective hitters, she would always run different plays for them, keeping Bridgeland’s blockers guessing. Kliafas also made numerous digs and was confident and bold enough to come up with setter dumps in key moments of the match.
