Austin Kingsley | Prep Dig Scout
This has been a transformative club campaign for Ward and her Nebraska Juniors 17 Black teammates. 17 Black punched its 17 Liberty ticket via the Lone Star Classic, a rare venue for Great Plains Region competitors. Ward, who represents Lincoln East on the prep side, has soared as one of Nebraska Juniors’ best 2027 liberos. She has a calm, “quiet” platform that can engineer perfect backspin to her setter. That kind of consistency is essential when taking a squad down south for LSC–or eastward to Indianapolis for GJNC.

Every prosperous Nebraska Juniors team needs its star libero, and Ward has filled that niche for 17 Black. We’ve seen Ward’s precise passing in a showcase environment, but this junior has demonstrated plenty of backcourt command on qualifier stages. NLQ provided another entry in that narrative as Nebraska Juniors 17 Black marched to the final 17 American bracket. Ward was stout in the serve-receive pattern and eagerly took up space in the middle-back area. Minneapolis could be the launching point for further growth among Nebraska Juniors’ best 2027 prospects.

Ward made double-digit dig performances look like an ordinary occurrence. She was a defensive gem in Orlando and caught our attention through her quick reflexes and fast-twitch movements. Ward’s infectious energy is the kind of quality we love to see among liberos at showcase events, but this Lincoln East star is bringing that vibe everywhere. Nebraska Juniors keeps piling up quality defenders.

Mark down another standout from the Nebraska Juniors camp. Ward has previously been a star at our Prep Dig Showcase events, but her performance at the Midwest Power League has raised her stock further. Teams had to swing away from Ward to find any offensive success. This Lincoln East prep athlete was impenetrable in the crosscourt and could also read off-speed shots down the line. 16 Black’s 16 Open triumph was no fluke.

Nebraska Juniors 15 Black has no shortage of defensive talent. Ward made a big impression in Orlando through her nimble court movement and pinpoint passing accuracy. The Lincoln native can also shed the libero jersey and become an all-around outside hitter if needed. This diverse skill set will make Ward a fascinating prospect in the 2027 class.

We might as well wrap up with one more versatile defensive star. Ward has a solid background as an outside attacker, but most of her recent highlights have been in the back row. Nebraska Juniors 15 Black puts this well-rounded defender in the libero jersey and allows her to direct traffic in all rotations. Ward will readily control a large chunk of the serve receive pattern and is also thriving in transition. This is a six-rotation mainstay no matter which position Ward plays.
