At 6’1”, Hughes brings valuable versatility as both an opposite and middle. She has the length to close blocks effectively and the strength to attack with authority from either pin or the middle. Her improved consistency and ability to adapt to different rotations helped her make a 34-spot jump. Hughes is the type of player who can impact the game in multiple ways, making her stock rise quickly.

Lyric is certainly making waves at Westminster, and her impressive skills are catching attention despite her youth. Standing at 6’1”, she has the physicality to put up a strong block while also delivering powerful attacks. It’s exciting to hear that you’ve seen her in action during the club season—her potential as a key offensive player for Westminster is clear. With a last name that resonates in SLU basketball history, there’s a lot of anticipation surrounding her development on the volleyball court.

Hughes was possibly the strongest front-line player at the showcase. She had moments where she was dominant and unstoppable on offense when things were flowing perfectly. She showed off an effective slide but produced a lot of damage on swings from both pins. She showcased her ability to move out to the pin if needed. She was one of the top blockers in the gym, also sending back numerous balls off the attack.

I have only seen footage of Hughes, so I look forward to seeing her live in action at the showcase. The 6’0″ athlete has taken reps from both the middle and the opposite positions. She is still raw on the right side, but you can see the potential as she continues to improve her footwork. In the middle, she shows quickness off the ground with quick sets.
