About Madysen

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

Serving: Executes consistent overhand serves with deep placement, driving the ball with pace to challenge the opposing receive. ​Defense & Back Row: Keeps a low, athletic stance to react quickly to deep spikes or tips while tracking the ball for maximum court coverage. ​Rotation & Synergy: Shifts smoothly onto the court post-serve, communicating actively to fill defensive gaps seamlessly.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I bring a focused, aggressive mentality to the court. Whether I'm challenging the defense with deep, high-pace serves, staying low and locked-in to read the attack from the back row, or constantly talking with my teammates to shut down defensive gaps, I play with high energy and total commitment to every rally.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

Undefeated Junior High Volleyball Seasons: Achieved back-to-back undefeated seasons throughout 7th and 8th grade, culminating in a team recognitional plaque at the end of the 8th-grade season. Presidential Academic Recognition: Received the Presidential Award for Educational Excellence for maintaining a GPA consistently above 3.0 throughout entire junior high career.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Teamwork & Accountability: Being part of a back-to-back undefeated team taught me how to perform under pressure, trust my teammates, and maintain a winning standard. Leadership & Discipline: Earning presidential academic recognition while playing sports required strong time management and focus. Communication: Playing in the back row has developed my ability to be a vocal and encourage teammates.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

Managing High-Stakes Pressure In Club Season: Playing on a team that won 80% of our matches and earned two bids for Nationals meant playing under constant pressure against top-tier talent. Overcoming that push back taught me how to stay mentally tough, adjust to high-level offenses, and perform when the stakes are highest.

What type of college are you looking for?

Athletics: A high-level, competitive program with a winning culture where I can challenge myself and contribute to the team's success. Academics: An institution with strong academic programs that supports and values student-athletes who maintain high standards. Culture: A driven environment with strong team chemistry, clear communication, and a focus on accountability and continuous growth.

Six-rotation outside hitters are not all the same. Many of them are strong from the pin and developing defensively. Others balance their talents in the front and back rows. Strohbehn resides in the latter group. In helping Select win the Iowa Regional and finish 11th in the National Division at USAV Nationals, the incoming freshman delivered consistent contributions all around the court. Her swing is effective thanks to a sound vertical and power. Strohbehn moves well laterally and acts fast in defending the back row. There’s potential for significant growth across the board, making Strohbehn one to watch.
