, a Class of 2027 setter from Klein High School and
MoCo MAVS
Volleyball Club, is a player whose passion for the position and hunger to compete at the next level come through clearly every time she steps on the court. She brings above-average physical dimensions to the setter role, giving her the frame to deliver from a higher release point and maintain a net presence that keeps opposing offenses honest when she is in the front row. She processes the game with a maturity that tells you the work being put in away from the gym is intentional and consistent, and her ability to keep the offense moving and her hitters confident in pressure moments is a quality that does not develop on its own. Her footwork getting to the ball is deliberate and her setting mechanics are built on a clean technical foundation, which is what allows her to stay effective even when the pass takes her out of her comfort zone. Competing in a Klein ISD district full of high-level programs has sharpened her decision-making speed and the competitive toughness that shows up in her game when the match is close and the set matters. Mariah is a 2027 setter who plays with genuine love for the position and the kind of competitive drive that college coaches at every level find worth investing in. Please help us congratulate her on earning a spot in our Official Watch List.

Under Brown’s leadership, Klein completed their schedule in the event with five victories and three defeats. The left-handed playmaker was heavily influential in the team’s play, orchestrating their offense and coming up with points in big moments. Brown ran a fast-paced offense when in system and was very accurate when working with passes of the net, ensuring her hitters were consistently in good positions to score. The setter also produced some impressive digs and was very disciplined when covering her hitters, often generating second-chance opportunities for her team to score. Brown’s serving was another positive in her game and helped her team score points in aces or by getting opponents out of system.

Brown was with the MoCo Mavs 16 Red team that ranked fifth in the event after securing two wins and three losses. She split her time between setting and hitting duties and was one of the most important players in the team. A very technical player, Brown was very good as a playmaker, distributing the ball well among her teammates. When hitting herself, she used her vision and her talented left arm to get the ball past opposing blockers and out of range for defenders. She also did a good job from the service line, putting pressure on opponents with her tricky floaters.

The younger sister of popular Texas outside hitter Ariana, Mariah took a different route playing setter and showed she has what it takes to stand out in the position. I liked everything I saw about her setting skills, starting with her accuracy, but probably even more how dynamic and aggressive she is. Brown is extremely physical and knows exactly how to make the most of her athletic tools when setting – she used her strength to push the ball to the pin from anywhere on the court and her body control to make fakes and keep opposing blockers guessing. She was always willing to take risks with her distribution and proved to be extremely creative. A lefty, Brown also played as a hitter in some drills, showing she has the skills to be a very productive setter/right side hitter.
