Expert Analysis
Michelle Bamford | Prep Dig Scout
Payton Osegueda centers around ownership of her game. She’s not trying to play like anyone else, she’s focused on understanding what works for her and leaning into it.
Not everyone’s play style is the same… accepting that has made me a better athlete.
That confidence shows up in how she attacks. She describes swinging with intention, not just to swing, but to score, using different shots and locations to stay effective.
Her ability to stay connected to the match stands out just as much. When one part of her game isn’t clicking, she shifts her focus rather than letting it affect everything else.
If I am not passing well, I make sure I stay focused on hitting… if I am down on all areas I put extra into my teammates.
That balance between self-awareness and team impact is what keeps her steady across long matches.
Off the court, she’s more reserved, but that contrast shows up when she competes. She is looking for a college that values discipline, composure, and athletes who bring intent to every play.

, a Class of 2028 outside hitter from Park Hill High School in Kansas City and Club North Volleyball Club, currently ranked No. 9 overall in the Prep Dig Missouri State Rankings, is the kind of athlete who does not need an introduction once the match starts because she introduces herself on the very first swing. At 6’1″ with a left side attack that is as powerful as anything in her class in the entire country, she is a problem that opposing defenses simply do not have a clean answer for and every coaching staff watching her compete knows it the moment she approaches the ball. This is not the first time she has earned Top Performer recognition at a Prep Dig showcase and it will not be the last, because players with her combination of size, athleticism, and pure attacking ability do not have bad days. They just decide how much damage they are going to do. She kills the ball with an authority and intention that makes hitters on the other side of the net look over their shoulder, and the fact that she is still a 2028 means the best version of this player has not even arrived yet. College programs that have already been watching her know they are looking at someone who will make an immediate impact the day she steps on a college campus, and those that have not seen her yet owe it to themselves to get to Kansas City before someone else makes the call they should have made first. Payton is not a prospect you monitor from a distance. She is one you commit to before someone else does. Please help us congratulate her on earning Top Performer honors at this showcase event.

brings a high-IQ approach to the pin, combining competitiveness with an awareness of how to impact the game beyond just attacking. Her focus on decision-making and situational play suggests an athlete who is actively processing the game and adjusting accordingly.
“My goal is to do what the play asks me every single point.”
Her response reflects a player who understands role clarity and embraces both the mental and physical demands of the game. There is a balance between composure and competitiveness that supports her consistency.
She has been working on her serve receive, focusing on footwork and ball control to provide better opportunities for her setter. That added dimension strengthens her ability to stay effective across rotations.
We are excited to welcome Miss. Osegueda to the SLC Showcase as she continues to build her all-around game and apply her decision-making in a competitive environment.

stood out as one of the top performing outside hitters across the AVCA Phenom Clinics and Showcase, and her performance was no surprise. I have seen Payton play and develop on multiple occasions, and this weekend reinforced just how intentional she is about her growth. Her ability to process the game quickly, compete with discipline, and impact plays on both pins consistently separated her in a deep national field.
What made Payton’s weekend especially impressive was the commitment behind the scenes. She participated in the positional clinic on Friday, then turned around and woke up at 5:45 a.m. to compete in her first club tournament of the season. After finishing her matches, she drove straight back to the Kansas City Convention Center to showcase again. That type of schedule is demanding physically and mentally, yet Payton showed up composed, prepared, and ready to compete. That level of dedication, discipline, and love for the craft does not go unnoticed. It is exactly the kind of commitment college coaches respect and value.
Reflecting on her experience, Payton emphasized how meaningful it was to train and compete alongside top athletes from across the country. She noted that the environment helped her understand her competition while also building confidence through fast-paced, high-impact drills. On the court, she is most proud of her ability to make quick, disciplined decisions as an attacker, combining volleyball IQ with power and shot selection. Her training is rooted in understanding the game, which allows her to stay adaptable and effective in high-level situations.
Looking ahead, Payton is focused on maintaining confidence and accountability while continuing to grow as both a player and a person. Her advice to younger athletes is clear and grounded in experience. Set higher standards for yourself. Be willing to do what others are not. Trust your process, stay committed to your path, and take the time to understand who you are, not just as a player, but as a competitor navigating pressure, challenges, and growth.

Payton Osegueda brings a versatile offensive toolbox to the court. She knows how to mix up her tempo, swinging hard when it’s there, but just as comfortable placing a smart shot when the situation calls for it. On the block, she’s a problem. Her press over the net is consistent and aggressive, making her a major presence at the net on both sides of the ball.
What truly stands out is her mindset. Payton is hungry to grow, highly coachable, and locked in on playing at the next level. That mix of skill, motor, and maturity makes her a serious prospect who will only continue to rise. ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247
