Reagan Senda plays for a club on the island of Oahu, which meant UA Next handed her something she hadn’t experienced before, a gym full of unfamiliar teammates from outside her usual volleyball world. She’d always thought of herself as a leader for her own team, but leading a group of strangers turned out to be a different, harder skill, and she came away from the camp with real growth in both her leadership and her communication, from directing sets to calling for help the moment a pass got shaky.

Ask her what “being a setter” means and she’ll tell you it’s never just about setting the ball. For Reagan, the position is communication, effort, and leadership rolled into every rotation, and she credits her club’s tournament schedule with sharpening all of it at once, running the offense, connecting with her passers, and finding her own offensive touches along the way. Confidence, more than anything else, is what she says made the difference competing off island: once a player has it, the leadership, the communication, and the effort tend to follow close behind.

Reagan Senda thinks differently. If one of her hitters gets blocked or misses an attack, her first instinct is to set them again. Her growth this season has extended well beyond setting. Senda has expanded her serving arsenal to include multiple serve types while learning to identify weak passers before the whistle ever blows. When momentum shifts, she returns to her fundamentals, keeps communication flowing, and searches for the hitter who can help steady the offense. It is a thoughtful approach that reflects a player constantly processing the game around her.

Reagan describes herself as an introvert, but her answer revealed someone who is deeply invested in learning.

When she is not practicing or competing, she enjoys studying film, reading, drawing, following collegiate volleyball, and spending time with family. Volleyball does not seem to stop when practice ends. She continues to learn by watching the game and studying it from different perspectives.

As a rising freshman, Reagan is keeping an open mind about the recruiting process. California is appealing because of family connections, but she is not limiting herself. Right now, she appears focused on learning, growing, and exploring possibilities before narrowing her options later in the process.
