USAV Showcase: Athletes Positioning Themselves for Rankings

USAV Showcase Session 2: June 29th</a>   For many athletes, the USAV GJNC Showcase provides more than an opportunity to compete in front of college coaches.   It provides an opportunity to be evaluated.   While rankings are built from months of tournament coverage, video review, conversations with coaches, and in-person observation, showcases create something unique. They allow evaluators to watch athletes up close in a controlled environment where communication, leadership, coachability, volleyball IQ, and athleticism often become easier to identify than during a crowded tournament weekend.   Athletes are no longer being evaluated only within their team's system. They are asked to compete with new teammates, respond to new coaching, and demonstrate how their skills translate in an unfamiliar environment. Those moments often provide valuable insight when evaluating future rankings and long-term potential.   As athletes prepare for USAV GJNC Showcase Session 1, I wanted to learn a little more about who they are beyond volleyball and what they hope to find in a future college home.   Their answers revealed a group of athletes who care deeply about academics, relationships, personal growth, and finding programs that align with their values both on and off the court.   Before they step onto the court in Indiana, here's a closer look at a few of the athletes who will have an opportunity to showcase their game, introduce themselves to college coaches, and continue building their recruiting profile in front of the PrepDig rankings staff.    Alexandra is centered on something many athletes spend years trying to find: the right people.   Whether she is spending time at the beach, exploring the outdoors, or diving into her interest in science and animals, relationships seem to be at the center of how she views the world. She describes herself as someone who cares deeply about the feelings of others and wants to be part of an environment where people support and uplift one another without judgment.   When she thinks about college, Alexandra is less focused on whether a school is large or small and more focused on how it feels. A healthy team culture, genuine relationships, and the ability to compete at a high level while still enjoying the experience are priorities for her. The college-town atmosphere appeals to her, but finding a place where she can be herself while continuing to grow appears to matter most.   ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247     Aziah Amosa loves making people laugh.   The Hawaii athlete describes herself as cheerful, positive, and someone who naturally encourages others. Those qualities often shape team environments in ways that never appear on a stat sheet, and they seem to be a meaningful part of who she is both on and off the court.   As she thinks about the future, Aziah is looking for a college program built around strong culture, competitive volleyball, and good academics. Just as important, she wants coaches who are invested in helping athletes grow beyond the game itself. Her response reflects someone who values development, connection, and the opportunity to become the best version of herself while helping those around her do the same.   ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247     Balance is a word that is important to Brooklyn.   She takes pride in maintaining strong grades, staying disciplined with her schoolwork, and managing her time effectively while continuing to develop as a volleyball player. At the same time, she places a high value on relationships, making time for family and friends and recognizing the importance of a strong support system.   When Brooklyn talks about college, she is looking for more than competitive volleyball. She wants an environment where student-athletes are challenged academically, encouraged to develop as people, and surrounded by teammates and coaches who value effort, discipline, and continuous improvement. Her answer reflects someone who understands success is rarely built in just one area of life.   ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247     Faith loves spending time with friends, enjoys trying new things, and has a passion for baking. In fact, experimenting with recipes and sharing what she creates with teammates has become one of her favorite ways to connect with people.   Beyond volleyball, Faith is committed to her academics and enjoys giving back through volunteer work. As she begins thinking about her future, she hopes to find a college environment that allows her to continue pursuing all of those interests while competing at a high level. For Faith, the ideal fit is not just about volleyball. It is about finding a place where athletics, academics, community involvement, and personal interests can all exist together.   ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247     Avery Johns keeps things pretty simple.   She is a strong student carrying a 4.0 GPA, a multi-sport athlete who also competes in basketball, and someone who values environments where high expectations exist both academically and athletically.   When describing her ideal college fit, Avery immediately pointed to academics, competitive athletics, and good people. That answer reflects a mature understanding of what many successful student-athletes eventually discover: finding the right culture can be just as important as finding the right volleyball program. She appears to be looking for a place that will challenge her in the classroom, support her development as an athlete, and surround her with people who share those same standards.   ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247     Reagan describes herself as an introvert, but her answer revealed someone who is deeply invested in learning.   When she is not practicing or competing, she enjoys studying film, reading, drawing, following collegiate volleyball, and spending time with family. Volleyball does not seem to stop when practice ends. She continues to learn by watching the game and studying it from different perspectives.   As a rising freshman, Reagan is keeping an open mind about the recruiting process. California is appealing because of family connections, but she is not limiting herself. Right now, she appears focused on learning, growing, and exploring possibilities before narrowing her options later in the process.   ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247     Evelyn has a clear priority...academics matter.   The 2029 outside hitter and defensive specialist describes herself as someone who is heavily invested in school and constantly working to improve in the classroom. When she imagines her future college experience, she is not separating volleyball from academics. She wants both.   Her ideal fit is a place where athletic development and academic excellence exist side by side.
