She told herself that if she liked the set, she was going to swing as aggressively as she could, no hesitation. She got the set she wanted, trusted the read, and put it away to win the match.

That kind of pre-committed aggression is a real skill, not luck. A lot of hitters wait to see how a swing feels before deciding how hard to commit to it; Reiss made the decision before the ball was even in the air.

She’s continuing into high school volleyball this fall with a focus on getting more reps through private lessons, and she’s already been recognized academically, landing on her school’s academic watchlist.
