Perhaps it’s a stretch to label Johnson as a defensive specialist after her six-rotation explosion at last month’s Show Me Qualifier. She received plenty of frontcourt reps en route to Dynasty 16 Black’s runner-up finish in KC, showcasing her whippy arm on the left antenna. But even if Johnson wasn’t along the net, her pinpoint passing and defense made her a mainstay in the 16 Black rotation. The Olathe Northwest sophomore is an essential part of 16 Black’s elite unit on the end line. Johnson’s willingness to do it all has made Dynasty a frontrunner for the ultimate 16 Open prize in Indianapolis this summer.

Johnson finished her sophomore season with 413 digs and 413 kills. In my books, that puts her on par with the only six guys to have 40/40 seasons in Major League Baseball history: Ronald Acuna Jr, Barry Bonds, Jose Canseco, Shohei Otani, Alex Rodriguez, and Alfonso Soriano. Johnson is ranked No. 30 overall.

Johnson is another underrated prospect that I missed seeing play last season. She was a stat monster for the Ravens, which is why she is ranked where she is at No. 30. Her lucky number last season was 413, as it represents the total number of kills, digs, and serve receptions she recorded as a sophomore. She dropped a couple of spots in the rankings primarily because more familiar names moved past her.
