Expert Analysis

Big, physical and full of positive vibes, Rylie hits a high-and-hard ball that’s tough to defend for both blockers and floor defenders alike. The transition is there, she’s on time and ready to hit in any situation, legitimately. I’ve personally seen her score points on the left, the middle, the right, and blocking all of those spots as well. For her future, she’s a middle/right side hybrid, and would do well with an offense that can take advantage of her doing both at an above-average level.

Big and strong in her own right, Rylie’s broad shoulders and high attack point have scored many a point over the years. I’d like to see a little more lift in her legs on the attack, where she can REALLY take advantage of her size. She seems to be more defensively developed at this time, which is a nice trait to have considering the dearth of available size in the middle in this class.

Big and physical, Rylie looks very natural as a three-rotation right side with thump, or an M2 that brings her strong upper body to the fray. Her broad shoulders, heavy arm and solid footwork make her a tough person to defend against, yet she still needs a little development on her approach—-she sometimes gets caught hitting the ball on her way down. No matter; that can be fixed with faster footwork and some other strength and conditioning in the weight room. You can’t teach 6’+, and Rylie is closer to 6’2” than most available players in this class.

Ok, I cheated. Rylie is a ’27. Even still, keep an eye on this kid who plays up with 17 Teal at Dunes. Strong and deliberate with her attack, Rylie is a big M2 for the next level if there ever was one. Although her attack touch isn’t as high as some of the other middles in this class, she finds ways to score with her strong shoulder and smart shots. More of a defensive middle for the next level, her hand placement and consistent footwork when blocking is what currently scores her squad the most points. I’d like to see a little more variety when she attacks, especially if her setter this year runs anything other than a front one.
