We continue our positional breakdown in the class of ‘27 with the middles and what they can bring to the table. All five of these amazing athletes are from all corners of Indiana, from five different clubs, all with specific skills that make them very unique and even more recruitable.

Easily having the highest attack touch in this list, Ja'Maria just finished an entire club season training with the best 18s club team in the state, Munciana's Samurai. Her ultra-high attack touch, coupled with a very high volleyball IQ, allows her to go over, around and through any blocker thinking they have a chance against her because of her size. No, she isn't six feet tall, but she MORE than makes up for it with a quick transition, an even quicker arm swing and the ability to hit any ball given to her in any tempo and in any location.

Hidden on the depth chart at one of the best 4A programs in the state, Madden is a legitimate 6'3” middle with length for days. Her penetration on the block is exceptional, and her offensive capabilities caught up to her defensive skill during club season this past spring. They say you can't teach height or length, and Miss Showalter has both in droves.

Quiet but tough, Kenley is the no-nonsense middle that can use brute strength to power through any undisciplined blocker thrown in front of her. Already adept at the M2 position, she's a force to be reckoned with when attacking in front of the setter. On defense, her penetration and strong shoulders take up a ton of space, and both skills show her workhorse mentality when she plays.

Although more of a right side than a traditional middle at this time, Avery's length and exceptional jumping ability set her apart from a lot of middles found in southwestern Indiana. From super small Forest Park, Avery's ability to take over a match at the small school level was immediately apparent. When club season started, however, she proved her mettle and that her full-go and no-quit mentality carried her far against more seasoned competition. Miss Hill will be a steal for anyone looking for a developing middle coming to volleyball later than most that can play multiple positions at the next level simply because of her athletic acuity.

Strong and more of a hybrid athlete, Rylie is a big and physical front row player that can terminate from any position and any tempo ball at any time. Against bigger competition, she uses her high contact point to score, while against smaller blocks she abuses their lack of discipline with her brute strength. I think she's more of a right side at the next level, but I've seen her play both positions equally well and, with a little training, could be a positive influence on multiple position groups.
