About Savannah

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

My gameplay style is intense, serious, and I lead by example. During games, I’m very focused on getting the side out and scoring the next point. I let my play motivate the team by trying to take as many balls as I can and chasing down balls that go off the court. When my teammates are struggling, I focus on giving them encouraging words and uplifting them by giving high fives.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

A good description of my mentality on the court are the sayings “next ball” and “never let a ball drop.” Next ball is essential for me as a libero because I'm the first contact and need to move on quickly if I have a bad pass. Never let a ball drop is vital for me as a libero because the backrow is looking at me to make these plays, and chasing a ball off the court inspires them.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am involved in three clubs at my school. The Pink Journey Club, which raises money for people with cancer, the Ski and Snowboarding Club, and Miracles For Kids, which helps families that are struggling financially.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I have been going to Lake Mohave since I was little, and it would always upset me to see trash on the beaches. I became a National Park Service Volunteer Employee and organize trash pick-ups at least four times a year. Doing this made me realize that you can be a leader and make a difference, even when the problem seems overwhelming and bigger than you.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I played my 14's season as a six-rotation OH because of injuries on the team. I was scared and nervous at first because, as the libero playing OH, I had to go against taller and bigger girls. As the season progressed, I became more confident and had games where I led the team in attacks and kills.

What type of college are you looking for?

As an avid sports fan, it is essential to me that the university offers multiple sports teams and games that I can attend. I would also like a university located in an area that provides a variety of outdoor recreational activities. Most importantly, the university needs to offer a psychology program, as I plan to study psychology and help people with their mental health after I graduate.
