VanDerPol is competing with PowerPlex 17-Mendoza this club season following a strong junior campaign at Des Moines Christian in the fall. For the Lions, she registered a team-high 236 kills (.220) and 85.0 blocks, which also paced the squad. VanDerPol added 73 digs to the cause. Mendoza finished ninth out of 29 teams at the recent USAV Iowa Regional Tournament in Central Iowa. Checking out highlights on her Sports Recruits page, we can witness her playing at a high level for that outfit. VanDerPol is a dangerous two-way middle with a broad base of skills. She can finish the attack on quick sets or by getting on top of traditional sets. The slide attack is smooth and powerful. VanDerPol reads the opposing attack well, which adds to her natural abilities in throwing up a block.

Van Der Pol is a versatile two-way middle. She flashed plenty of potential when I watched her compete during the LOVB Midwest Recruiting Showcase in June. With good height and long arms, she has the natural tools necessary to succeed at the position. She marries those gifts with sound volleyball fundamentals and feel for the game. Van Der Pol usually is positioned to make a play. Her block is consistently a deterrent for opposing attacks, and she alters a lot of attempts she can’t quite reach. As an attacker, Van Der Pol whips her swing through the hitting zone, creating power. Her skill set also works on the right side
