Player Bio
How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?
I would describe my playing style as tactical and creative. I always thinking out certain probabilities and I am able to stay calm and collected during intense situations. Before I started volleyball at the age of 9, I did dance and gymnastics for six years. I really feel like this has help with my coordination and footwork on the court.
Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?
I would say I’m resilient and I stay focused. I’m very good at keeping my head present in the game and. Even when I’m feeling nervous on the inside, I always am sure to keep my poise and not show it on the outside. As a setter, I also think it’s important to show strength for my teammates. Whether it’s a word or encouragement, a high five, or help with rotations, I’ve got their backs.
Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?
For the past two summers, I was on a surf club. I’m not sure I’ll be able to dedicate much time to surfing this year as volleyball has taken priority, but I still definitely plan on getting on the water when I can. I also play on a beach volleyball league and will join my high school’s beach club next year.
What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?
I have learned so much from volleyball it’s hard to pare it down to such a short answer. I would say resilience is the first thing that comes to mind because it was the first thing I had to wrap my head around when I started playing. Now, having a thick skin is one of my strong points. I’ve also developed discipline and accountability.
Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.
I faced one just this last year. At U14 I decided to switch clubs; joining a new team that had played together for years was intimidating at first! Even though my new team was extremely welcoming and kind, I felt like I was starting all over again from square one. Also, my new coach hard on me. But once I learned to play for my own approval, something clicked and I just excelled.
What type of college are you looking for?
I would love to go to a college that provides a good team environment and a play style that allows me to be creative as a setter. Of course one that that provides a good academic opportunity for me, too, I’m just not sure yet what I want to study! So far I’ve really been interested in microbiology.
