Smith (bottom picture) is one of Bethlehem’s team captains. Smith is a sound all-around player. Bethlehem head coach Mike Shay said she was not interested in playing at the next level initially, but that’s changed as her game has developed over time. Smith tools blocks with both hard swings and tips when she has the right spacing away from the net. Smith rips balls by double blocks and into seams and shoves out of system balls to corners. She takes hard swings down lines and slides on defense to make big digs under control. In the back row, Smith makes the simple passes.

Smith is a sound option on the outside for Rising Heights and the Banshees. Smith aims her body one way to get defenders leaning, then sends balls to another part of the court. Smith draws some double blocks, but it it is not easy to pull off against the balanced Bethlehem team. It helps she’s playing with two of her Bethlehem teammates during club season. Smith gets on top of balls to put great power into them. She can power balls through double blocks. Smith had 162 kills, 27 solo and 16 assisted blocks in the fall for Bethlehem, helping the Banshees go 28-9, win the 19th District crown and drive to the 5th Region semifinals.

One reason the Banshees are 5-0 in 19th District seed play is strong team balance. Smith gives Bethlehem another option on the outside for opponents to consider. She draws a lot of one-on-one opportunities with the talent around her. Smith makes good in-game adjustments. Smith landed some kills across the court from the weak side to the shallow five zone against Eminence in the All “A” State Tournament. Once Smith saw the Warriors cover it, Smith smacked balls to the back court including some through double blocks.
