About Sofia

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I would like to think that I understand the game very well, high IQ on the court and I am scrappy. I don't like to see the ball touch the court and will do anything to keep it up. As far as hitting, I know how to read the court on the other side and put the ball where it needs to go. I love doing both front row and back row!

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I am a hard worker! I don't give up and I don't want a mistake to define my next move so I try to move on quickly.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

YoungLife Student Athlete Leader All A's (9th, 10th, and 11th grade) Top 1% of my class 7/802

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I do my best to be a leader on and off the court. I have been team captain many times as well a court captain. I do quite a bit of community service by helping our middle school set up for the new school year, provide tours of the school, Houston Food Bank, HJV (volunteer in consessions), donate to Texas Children's Hospital, Teacher Appreciation

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I am dyslexic & reading was a huge challenge for me but I have put in a lot of work that others don't have to in order to stay a straight A student. I am currently 9/990 in my class, making me part of the top 1%. It hasn't been easy but I want to be the best I can be.

What type of college are you looking for?

Medium size college with a family feel, smaller classes, support academically and on the court

An impressive all-around prospect, Novak can wear a few different hats on a volleyball court and provide what her team needs in different areas of the game. A lefty, she’s typically used on the right, but also has the ball control and the defensive qualities to make an impact on the backcourt. Novak is not the tallest or most physical right side hitters out there, but when it comes to being efficient, she’s right up there with the best. Her court vision is outstanding and she benefits from it to find nice spots for her shots, scoring at a fairly high rate in out-of-system plays.
