Already committed to Quinnipiac, Sophia proved yesterday her All-State honors were well-earned. Able to keep the same tempo of set regardless of where the ball was passed, she found the right hitter in the right situation at the right time, and consistently ran the offense to peak performance. Of course, there were some growing pains—-common for a first tournament with new parts on the roster. I’m sure that, over time and training, Sophia will keep them together consistently.

Quiet, calm, cool and collected, Sophia showed up right when the Chargers needed her most. In three sets, Miss Gisslen racked up 28 assists, and needed every last one of them in Carroll’s rare off-night this past Saturday. The Quinnipiac commit continues to run the offense at an extremely efficient level, and will need to do even more to get past the Shamrocks Saturday morning.

She has clean, consistent hands and a quick release, allowing her to run a smooth, fast-tempo offense that keeps defenders on their heels. Her ability to stay calm and execute with precision under stress is exactly what coaches look for in a high-level setter, and it’s no surprise she’s already committed to a Division I program.

As part of Pineapple High Performance’s 17-1, Sophia is a no-nonsense state champ with aspirations on going big time. Her ball location is second to none on this list, she has impeccable footwork, and defends her position at an above-average level. Also an All-State honoree, Miss Gisslen doesn’t do the flashy moves or miracle sets because she doesn’t have to. She gets the job done, and her team wins. ‘Nuff said.

In her first season being the full-time setter at Carroll, all Sophia did was produce over 1000 assists, earn All-State accolades and win a 4A state championship. No biggie. Of course, if you’ve met Sophia for five minutes, you’d know that she’s a “no biggie” type of player. No fuss, no yelling and screaming, no crazy. Just methodical, technically sound, high level setting coming from one of the best setting prospects in the Fort Wayne area in quite some time. More than capable of running a fast-paced, 5-1 offense, Miss Gisslen has all of the tools and the talent to do the very same at the next level.

The setter for the 4A reigning state champs here in Indiana, Sophia is a lightning-fast setter with technically sound footwork and strong hands that can set any ball from pin to pin. On more than one occasion in the state final against Yorktown, Miss Gisslen turned a bad pass into an in-system ball, making her attackers THAT much more lethal on the biggest stage. Sophia also does all of this without flash and showmanship—an unassuming setter that leads by example is a perfect kid to lead a 5-1 offense, all with a work ethic that screams “gym rat”. I still find it hard to believe that she’s available, yet here we are.

Director of the offense for the 4A state champion Chargers, Sophia can run a fast offense for any high level collegiate team right NOW. She’s big enough to block opposing outsides, sets with accuracy and tempo on every kind of pass and defends her position better than most setters in this or any class.
