About Sophia
Expert Analysis
Jeremy Strain | Prep Dig Scout
She has been a focal point of the offense at Maryvale for years, and that was no different this weekend. Constantly being fed the ball and firing shots that dropped a good bit of the time, she played the textbook offensive OH and did her job raining ball after ball down on AACS. One of the top unsigned 2027s left on the board, she’s in the tweener category being a tiny bit shorter, which just means less margin of error, she doesn’t make a ton of those, which makes that point moot. Pins are still in demand, and she’s in the upper tier of offensive hitters, so I feel like it’s just amount time to jump in and say hi if you’re looking for some offense at the Pin.

Her 5’8″ height might be considered undersized for an outside. She only ranks 136 in our class of 2027. But she gave Annapolis Area Christian a handful in their championship match.
Jeremy raved about her in an evaluation last year. She leads Maryvale in kills. Those kills are not the result of her power but her savvy of knowing where to hit the open spots. She is also a solid six rotation player who can play a strong defense. Sophia sits second to

in digs while also filling an important role in serve receive.
Sophia also leads the team in service aces. A strong six rotation player who brings the versatility to hit outside or play libero, if the need exists.

Sophia is a standout all-around 6 at Maryvale. She’s agile, she’s flexible, she’s smart. She’s a great foil to Maryvale’s other top player,

and the two make a great duo, leading Maryvale to the IAAM title game in two straight seasons so far. Sophia does a great job adjusting to balls in the air to get her shot where she wants it. She plays very good back row defense for an OH, and she does a good job of taking what’s available instead of just trying to force everything to work. Reading the court and knowing when the defense is sitting with a deep Libero and the center is wide open for a tip is a better option than just hammering balls but sending them right at players, being able to recognize those things is a wonderful skill set.
This is a player that is going to move up significantly in the rankings in the next batch.
