Once again, Kevin Bordewick has led a team from Washburn Rural to the state tournament. Kelly runs the offense for the Junior Blues. She is ranked No. 49 overall and, like teammate Karsyn Hornya, has verbally committed to Baker University. Rural has a record of 30-7 headed into the tournament and will be the No. 4 Seed. The Junior Blues have a 9-6 record against state tournament-qualified teams. Including four wins over Manhattan and losses to Olathe West and Blue Valley West. Rural will be looking for its first state title since 2022 and its ninth title of the century.

I can’t think of any other prospects who have worked as hard as Kelly as to improve her game over the past couple of years. Kelly has improved her strength, quickness, and physical stamina the past two seasons. She finished her junior campaign with 888 assists and led Washburn Rural in aces with 45. She has offers from NAIA programs Baker, McPherson, and Bethel.

Topeka Saints run a two-setter system and they both looked really good to me. Watching the ball coming off of Kelly’s hands were butter. She looked to always be in control and did a good job with her bump sets when the first pass had her scrambling.
