About Zakiyyah

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

My volleyball gameplay is all about communication and teamwork. I'm constantly encouraging my teammates and trying my hardest to stay positive during tough matches. I focus on being reliable in my passes and consistent in both my offense and defense because I know how much every touch matters in a rally.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I stay calm and collected during games, staying confident in my abilities and trusting my teammates on the court. I strive to always bring a lot of energy and motivation in everything I do, giving my full effort and keeping the team's spirit high. Along with being full of energy for my team, I always strive to be focused and have a determined mentality.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

For the past four years I have been a member of my school dance program and received academic athletic honors the last two years. I have also volunteered for food drives and book cleanings in order to uplift struggling communities in Nevada. Currently, I am a board member and social media coordinator for a youth led organization wanting to spread political literacy.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

My creativity and expression has developed over the last four years due to my involvement in dance and theatre. Both of these have allowed me to be confident in sharing emotion through art and perform beyond my fears. I've learned how to be resilient and persevere due to rigorous academic work in which I had to push through time pressure and learning gaps.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

My family and I have faced housing insecurity resulting in having to reside in temporary housing during my last year of middle school. We lived in temporary housing for my 8th grade before finding permanent housing.

What type of college are you looking for?

I'm looking for a diverse college that grants me the opportunity to explore my academic interests as well as having a lively student body.
