Recruiting Update: Millard South Teammates and Others Make College Choices

While many area students are dealing with the fact that high school is starting in a matter of days, several high school volleyball players have recently dealt with the decision on where to play in college.
Jamie Hauptman, a 5-foot-10 outside hitter from Millard South, gave her verbal agreement yesterday to compete for Division II Emporia State. Jamie played this past club season for Nebraska Juniors 171.

Last season at Millard South, Hauptman had 318 kills for the Patriots with a hitting percentage of .300. Prior to committing to Emporia State, Haptman also was considering Division II program Florida Southern. Ultimately, she said, the opportunity to play close to home was more appealing.
“I think that’s really important for me,” Hauptman said. “If I don’t feel comfortable, I’m probably not going to play my best. Emporia had a real comfortable atmosphere there. My family has always been real supportive of me, and by being close to home they can still watch me.”
Hauptman’s teammate at Millard South, Lauryn Hilger, gave her verbal to NAIA Northwestern (Iowa) in recent days. Hilger played this past club season for Premier 16 Gold.
The 5-foot-10 outside hitter was one of the standout performers at the Top 10 Team Camp in Kearney just over a week ago. As a junior at Millard South a season ago, she had 226 kills with a .300 hitting percentage and also had 63 total blocks.
Also in recent days, Centura’s 5-foot-9 outside hitter Casey Krolikowski gave her verbal to play at NAIA Hastings College. Krolikowski had 250 kills, 65 total blocks and 254 digs for Centura last season.
Much earlier this spring, a couple Nebraska standouts made their college commitments in the early stages of the past club season.
Kelli Holloway, a 5-foot-7 defensive specialist/libero from Lincoln Northeast, gave her verbal to Division II Sioux Falls. Holloway played this past club season for Nebraska Juniors 172.
Jessica Peters, a 5-foot-9 setter from Papillion-LaVista, gave her verbal to NAIA Midland University. Peters played this past club season for Premier 17 Gold. Peters finished the 2013 regular season with 580 assists, 280 digs and 105 kills for the Monarchs. She really shined in the Class A State Tournament, where she had 76 assists, 44 digs and five kills in two matches, helping Papillion-LaVista reach the semifinals.
