SubscribeOutside of President’s Day tournaments happening in the greater Minnesota area, the largest contingency of Minnesota teams will be competing in Omaha this weekend at the 2018 Asics Omaha President’s Day Classic. This three-day event offers divisions from U12 through U18. Among the prep levels (U15-U18), Minnesota is well represented. The following information represents where Minnesota-based teams will start Round 1 on Saturday.
18 Open
A total of 14 teams are divided across two pools. Pool 1 features Northern Lights 18-1, the event’s top seed, and MN North 18-1. Northern Lights 18-2 is the third seed in Pool 2. As pool play will take place on both Saturday and Sunday, the top three teams will then advance to the Gold bracket playoff. The 4th and 5th place teams will advance to Silver, while the 6th and 7th place teams will advance to Bronze. All bracket play will take place on Monday.
18 Club
The format for 18 Club is different than 18 Open with six pools of four teams and two pools of three teams. Teams will then advance to Round 2 based upon day one results. The top two teams from each pool plus crossover matches will remain in the hunt for the tournament title while others will compete in consolation rounds. SMV 17-1, Northern Lights 18 Black, and Northern Lights 18 Red will compete in 18 Club.
17 Open
The 17 Open division will follow a similar format as 18 Open and includes 16 total teams. Northern Lights 17-1 is the top seed in Pool 2, while Pool 1 features Northern Lights 17-2 and MN North 17-1 Navy.
17 Club
A total of 48 teams are slated across 12 pools in 17 Club. Northern Lights 17 Black, MN North 17-1 White, SMV 17-1 Black, and Northern Lights 17 Red will represent Minnesota in this division.
16 Open
Northern Lights 16-1 will compete in 16 Open. They begin the tournament as the the second seed in Pool 1 among the 16 teams scheduled to compete.
16 Club
The largest collection of Minnesota teams is in the 16 Club division. Competing among the 17 pools are MN North 16-1, Northern Lights 16-2, MN North 16-1 Navy, Northern Lights 16 Black, Northern Lights 16 White, Northern Lights 16 Red, and SMV 16-1 Black.
15 Open
Northern Lights 15-1 is scheduled to compete in 15 Open and opens up the event as the event’s top seed. A total of 16 teams will battle it out over two days of pool play to determine bracket playoff positions.
15 Club
Four teams are set to compete in 15 Club. All teams are from the same club and will compete among a total of 64 teams. Teams competing include Northern Lights 15-2, Northern Lights 15 Black, Northern Lights 15 Red, and Northern Lights 15 White.
