The Mizuno Northern Lights Qualifier at the Downtown Convention Center in Minneapolis, MN is about to take the main stage in the Midwest with play starting Friday for the 16s and 17s going for one last chance to better or receive a bid to USAV Nationals to be held in Detroit mid summer.

Here are the teams that have already secured a 16 Open bid this club season and will be looking to continue their momentum and better their seed as the push for nationals gets closer.

o Excel 16 National Red

o HPSTL 16 Royal

o M6 S. Roberto

o PVA 16 Elite

o Rockwood Thunder 16 Mizuno

o TAV 16 Black 16 Travel

o OT 1

The trickle down can be a bit confusing, long story short there are three bids available in the 16s Division and if you do not make it in the top eight you are not eligible to receive an Open bid. This makes for an interesting case of scenarios that can happen as early as pool play Friday morning.

Beyond the bids, there are several players that will be center stage for college coaches. Minnesota is the mecca of Division 2 volleyball with the Northern Sun Conference being one of the best conferences in the nation. This is also the last weekend of play before NCAA Division 1 goes into a “Quiet Period” which means college coaches cannot go off campus to recruit, however recruits can come on campus. This will be the last time they can go out to see recruits until evaluation opens up Memorial Day weekend.

Below is a list of players from the Class of 2020 who have already committed to play at Division 1 universities. Some of the commits are among the best in the nation and have made their verbal with some of the top programs as well. Penn State has two athletes in this division and the SEC has three. There are plenty still out there, but here are some to note heading into competition which starts Friday morning at 8 AM.
