Continue ReadingThe Waupaca Boatride Tournament is a 4-day event that can’t possibly be covered in just 1 article. On Friday, July 12th, many prep athletes were playing in the junior grass quads, Saturday most took the day off while the adults played, and on Sunday juniors were back at it playing beach doubles. With collegiate and high school beach volleyball teams growing at a fast rate, players should be prepared to see beach as another option for college scholarship opportunities. And they are looking good in the Midwest!

We got to see the Vital 14 Gold teammates face off in the semi-finals with the Sieling sisters (Cassie and Ellie) taking on Melanie Meyer/Cameron Berger. The Sieling sisters were dominant thru pool play, and it helped them conserve energy, which was evident in playoffs. While many of the teams were looking pretty worn, the twins didn’t appear tired until the Championship match. Both girls had crazy good ball control, smart shots, and very tough serving.
[player_tooltip player_id="81255" first="Adriana" last="Studer"]The other semi-final had Adriana Studer Adriana Studer DS/L Lake Country Lutheran | 2022 State #187 Nation WI / Maleah Howe Maleah Howe OH Oconomowoc | 2022 State #190 Nation WI vs Max Dugan/Lydia Durnen. This was a tight match with some very smart and crafty plays by Dugan/Durnen, but eventually Studer/Howe’s tough serving and strong heavy swings proved to be too much. In the Championship, fatigue was setting in for both teams, and it was showing at the service line. Studer/Howe were still taking hard swings, but the Sieling sisters’ great court awareness showed in their strong defensive plays, smart shots, and pinpoint accuracy, using the whole court to wear down Studer/Howe.
