On Monday night, September 17th, two well-established teams faced off in a 5 game thriller. Benilde-St. Margaret played Woodbury with home-court advantage and Maizy Jackson. Woodbury showed a strong front at the net with a goal to stop Jackson. They didn’t stop Jackson, but were able to slow her down enough to win the first two sets. With new focus and the help of her teammates like setter,Sarah Luong, BSM went on to win the next three sets. It was a tough battle on both sides of the net, but the defense of Woodbury wasn’t able to keep up. Maizy celebrated her awesome career with her 1,000th kill. This is a great accomplishment for the 6’0” senior who plans to attend and play at the University of Northern Iowa next year! This win makes BSN 4-0 in the conference and 11-5 overall.
Then again on Tuesday night, the Kingsland Knight’s traveled to Lansboro High School. It was a special game for coach Sam Hanley, in his second year as the head coach of the Knights, and senior Lauren Buchholtz. The Knight’s handled the competition quite easily, with the Burro’s not getting more than 17 points in any set. It was an exciting time for the senior and even more enjoyable that she gets to share it with her sister Emily (sophomore/setter). Although the Knights haven’t yet been able to beat Mabel-Canton, one of their main rivals, they are showing improvement with each match. Any time you have players that can produce consistent kills like Buchholtz you have a strong chance to beat the competition.
Congrats to both players, teams, families and coaches!
