Continue ReadingI had another chance to see this amazing setter, Makayla Snow, this past weekend at the Big City Luau. She impressed me again in so many ways. I had seen her before playing in Rochester; each time I catch her on the court I can’t say enough great things about her.
At 5’11” she looks like a powerful hitter you’d expect to see on the outside. She has the muscle mass of a collegiate level player; the strength of her legs is matched only by the softness of her hands. Her release is so fast and smooth that even the most finicky refs would have a hard time catching her with a double contact. Her precision allows her hitters to shine. Kandi Elite always seems to have tall middles that are unstoppable, but there have grown to have this reputation because of the meticulous setting of Snow and others. Likewise, she takes the off-pass and turns it into a on-tempo play. A great example of how to better the ball.
To say she can do it all:serve, play defense, block and hit, somehow seems like an injustice to her ability. Makayla doesn’t just “do it all” she embraces it all and really has become a product of the game. And the volleyball history in her family runs deep, with a grandpa that is a well known referee in the metro area, her mom who has coached and her aunt, Lani Leistikow, who coaches in SE Minnesota.
Be sure to catch this star setter this club season with Kandi Elite 17-1 and BOLD high school. And if you can’t, check out her profile on NCSA. She has this for her personal statement on the site, “I am a very hard worker. I like to learn more everyday in school and sports. I pride myself on being an encouragement to my teammates always trying to make them look better. I am a Christian and hope that character trait comes out everyday in me. I might be a little bit of a perfectionist when it comes to my grades. I am not happy when I get anything less then a 4.0.”
It’s clear to see she has the mindset of a winner!
