In their 14’s division they have 6 teams: 14-1, 14-2, 14-3’s, Black, White, and Maroon. Together that combines for approximately 60 players and 15 coaches. All of the teams have experienced success at a handful of tournaments from the recent Dells Showcase, to playdates, Molten series, Big City Luau, and Pres. Day Challenge. Some of the biggest finishes were:
- 5th place @ Dells Showcase in the 15’s Division: 14-1
- 1st place @ Big City Luau Gold: 14-2
- 5th place @ Big City Luau Gold: 14-3
- 1st place @ MKE Jamboree Open: 14-1
- 3rd place @ MKE Jamboree Open: 14-2
- 5th place @ MKE Jamboree Club: 14-3
And the accomplishment list is sure to grow with each passing weekend. Every team is packed with young players developing into well-rounded athletes. Here is a look at the top athletes by position from the 14’s level.
Middle Hitters: At first glance these girls won’t look like 14-year olds, but height isn’t the only thing they bring to the court. MN Select coaches are already pushing the young players to swing block and run a variety of hits. These intimidating players are controlling the net play in every match.
Madeline Knutson – 6’0; from Maple Grove Middle School: 14-1’s
Olivia Swenson – 6’3”; from Hopkins Jr. High: 14-1’s
Molly Minnema – 6’0; from Olsen Middle school: 14-1’s
Ava Hendel – 5’11; Wayzata Middle School: 14-2’s
Ella Larsen – 5’8”; Jackson Middle school: 14-3’s
Jessica Boland – 5’8”; Jackson Middle school 14 black
Outside Hitters: Many in this position are the go to players on offense. They see a lot of high sets to the outside and most can play in all six rotations. They are often the primary passers for their teams.
Ada Schlenker – 5’9; from Cambridge MS: 14-1’s
Liesl Haugen- 5’8”; from Osseo: 14-1’s
Marlie Hanson – 5’9; Jackson Middle School: 14-2’s
Peyton Howie – 5’11”; Pinewood Middle school: 14-2’s
Lily Morrell- 5’8”; Westwood Middle school 14-3
Libero/DS: This is perhaps one of the most important positions at the 14’s age level. These players elevate the level of play with consistent passing and energy.
Avery Bolles – 5’8”; Oak View: 14-1’s
Kate Thibault – 5’6”; Watertown Mayer: 14-1’s
Morgan Ukestad – 5’5”; FAIR school; 14-2’s
Libby Burns– 5’5”; Watertown Mayer: 14-3’s
This list doesn’t cover all the young players with ambition, skills and positive attitudes at MN Select. Perhaps the best thing about this age is the list of top players will be constantly changing as they work with coaches to advance their skills and experience both sides of competition.
