This is a new and exciting opportunity for many clubs who have recently joined JVA. A few clubs from Minnesota will be making the 9+ hour trip, and even if they don’t place in the top (earning paid trip to nationals) it will be a great experience for all.
Crossfire Volleyball:
After dominating many of the tournaments in the area, Crossfire is set to sent an impressive four teams to Kentucky. All of their 1’s teams 18-15 will be competing. Expect a strong showing from all of their teams.
Their 16-1’s is the only team to take on the premier division. They will likely be the top performing team for the club. The size of this team will help them match up with some of the most elite clubs at the tournament including: Kate Bolz-Andolshek (6’1 MB), Kiya Durant (6′ MB), Elise Rossing (6′ RS) and Cyphany Henderson (5’10 S).
Southern Minnesota Volleyball (SMV):
With three of their best teams making the journey to their first JVA World Challenge, it will be a great experience for SMV. Their 14-1’s team is talented but may not be able to match up with height at the net. They will need to rely on scrappy play, and a can-do attitude to earn their W’s.
The 16-1’s team, coached by club director, Deb Hegerle (U of M alumni player), will have her squad ready to put forth a strong effort. Hegerle has the experience to help out-coach opponents and give her youthful team the advantage they need. Top hitters include: Mya Seuss, Ella Miller, and Olivia Pennington
Lastly, the 18-1’s is their team that has experienced the most success this season. Their offensive skills are equal to their defensive and are better-balanced team than most. However, this late in the season, there is always the possibility of missing/injured players. We hope they bring the full squad including Bailey Berge (DS), Kelly Klees (S), Rachel Fink (OH), and Eden Mueller (OH).
Vital Volleyball Club:
Vital will be sending three teams to the Challenge. They include their 15-1, 16-1 and 17-1. All three are stacked with talent and will represent our state well. Their 17-1’s team is a talented group with eleven unsigned athletes . There is a long list of colleges attending this weekend; however, most are far from Minnesota. But the Thursday night Unsigned Showcase would be a great option for these players to showcase their talent.
The 17-1’s Gold will be playing in the Premier division. The roster includes explosive outsides, smart setters, and determined defensive specialists. Players include: Presley Fink, Sophie Fritz, Kate Hamburg, Alexandra Hamel, Lydia Nash, Emma O’Connell, Hannah Paine, Katie Paine, Claire Segner, Claudia Stahlke, and Mikaila Winward. We anticipate a strong showing for this home-town team.
Good luck to all the teams and enjoy all the fun Lousiville can offer.
